Justin Chien

Justin is a senior consultant and senior manager at HiCap Alta with eight years of post-undergraduate experience. He obtained his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from UCLA, M.S. in Chemical Engineering from UC Berkeley, and his M.B.A. from UCLA Anderson School of Management.

He has dedicated his professional career in the healthcare industry, having worked as a full-time employee at Baxter and Baxalta as well as a consultant for biotech and pharma clients, including Shire, Takeda, Teva, and Amgen. In his spare time, Justin enjoys doing water activities, playing badminton, enjoying good food, and spending time with his girlfriend and friends.

He has spent some time at Kite Pharma, NKGen Biotech, Edwards Lifesciences, and is now supporting Atara Biotherapeutics. Before that, he was in school studying biomedical engineering with an electrical engineering emphasis. In his spare time, he likes to go rock climbing and spend time outdoors in the sun.

His hobbies include but are not limited to spelunking, sports car racing, buying, selling, and creating private paintings, and sport hunting.

As a consultant, he has supported companies in Puerto Rico and California, including Pfizer, Johnson and Johnson (J&J), Atara Biotherapeutics, and Takeda Pharmaceuticals.

Prior to his professional career in the pharmaceutical business, he obtained his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Inter American University of Puerto Rico and his master’s degree in engineering management (MEM) from the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico. He has been with HiCap Alta for more than two and a half years. Outside of work, he likes to spend time hiking, playing golf and video games, traveling to other countries or within the US, watching sports games and movies, and most importantly, spending time with his family.

Braun, Nordson, Par, Beckman Coulter, and Nitto. He has experience in validation, process engineering, manufacturing material management, quality control, and technical services.

Prior to entering the industry, he obtained his B.S. in biomedical engineering with a specialization in biophotonics. In his free time, he enjoys skateboarding, appreciating music, nature, and artwork, playing video games, investing in cryptocurrency, and paying a close attention to his health and nutrition.

She has held roles such as Quality Validation Associate for Baxalta and Shire and Validation Engineer for Kite Pharma and Takeda. She is responsible for the execution of validation projects and requalifications associated with manufacturing equipment, computer systems, utilities, and facilities. Francis holds a master’s degree in electrical engineering from California State University, Northridge. When not traveling, she enjoys going on hikes, ballet dancing, and spending time with family and friends.

Tom Kashiyama

Tom has over 28 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry leading the quality engineering and validation fields. He was previously the Sr. Quality Engineering Manager at Kite Pharma as one of their first 15 employees and was instrumental to the success of the company by ensuring the outstanding excellence of the Quality Engineering and Validation Departments. He stayed well into the Gilead acquisition to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of Kite's Quality Engineering and Validation Departments for the benefit of the patients. Now working with HiCap Alta as a Sr. Validation Engineering Specialist, he has continued to display his vast technical knowledge and re-earned the internal reputation as the Shogun of process equipment failure recovery. Tom's current interests have shifted from aggressive mergers and acquisitions of potential ventures and partnerships, to day-to-day stock trading and focusing on expanding investments in rental real-estate. With future expansions he will shift his California based rental properties overseas to Japan. On more leisure days he spends his time studying and appreciating postwar Japanese publications.
